High Sierra 10.13.6, most updated OS

Latest version of InDesign

Try trashing your InDesign preferences.

To do so:

The User Library folder in which InDesign’s preferences are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that InDesign is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N). With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the folder called “Adobe InDesign” and the file called “com.adobe.InDesign.plist” and delete both that folder and that file. When InDesign is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

The advantage of manually deleting preference files in this manner is that after you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, you can create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

How often do you do this? I've used InDesign for years and only started to have issues when version 6 started not to work with my operating system. Now that I'm finally on CC? Horrible. I have NEVER crashed so much. I thought it was my computer, I thought maybe it was our internet connection. All that is fine. Now I'm seeing there a SO MANY others that are having the same issue. Not just with InDesign but the whole Creative Suite. I use Bridge all the time as well and it's just bad.

Please start a new thread with full system details. If you're on Mac, put the crash report on pastebin.com and post a link. Do not post crash report here.

This thread has been answered and I'm closing it. This is for your benefit.

I'm on a MAC, Version 10.13.6. with Adobe InDesign CC 2019. I am having a similar problem.

I have searched a number of times looking for resolution to this issue for the last two years. I have been using adobe creative software since 2004 and have never had so much trouble with InDesign since I started using the Creative Cloud a couple years ago. InDesign CS6 worked great. It never crashed. I have deleted preferences and rechecked them. I have uninstalled. I have switched computers. This is ridiculous. I click within a text box to edit text and InDesign freezes. Sometimes it's 120 seconds, others it's 15 minutes, and then sometimes the program completely crashes or freezes the whole computer. I teach this software and it's extremely frustrating. I have students that are having the same problem. At this point I am trying to download CS6.

Does anyone have any alternate options?

When you ask a question you need to provide some basic information

Mac or Windows, and EXACTLY which version of the operating system?

Recent Mac AND Windows operating systems have been known to cause "odd" problems

Are you using a computer Administrator account with full read/write permission?

Exactly which version of the program do you have that is causing problems, and what error message do you see?
