Same this is happening to me.  Every time I try to place an image InDesign Crashes...

I did everything suggested in every post I could find: re-installed InDesign, reset preferences on computer, reset and rebuilt InDesign prefs, etc. etc. ad nauseum. All were successful but only for a day or two.

Know what finally fixed it for me? I went to Font Book, cleared out any unused fonts, then selected all active fonts and Verified them. Any fonts that came up Red were corrupt, so I deleted them, as well as any that showed up Yellow (suspect).

I've had no problems since then.  Please give this a shot.  It's WAY easier and quicker than re-installing, and I'd like to prevent any InDesign-inspired suicides or killing sprees.

I don't have Font Book. Any other suggestions?

Sorry.  I wasn't informed there was a response to my stuff.  If you don't have Font Book, you're not using a Mac, which is what I use.  I've been repairing corrupt permissions like a fiend.  I still occasionally get to the point where all my preferences go south, but not as often.

Your ID opens, correct. Open it and then try updating to the latest version for CS5.5 which is 7.5.3. See if that helps.

I updated it but it crashed again when attempting to create a new document. Any other ideas?

Have you tried uninstalling the CS suite, running the cleaner tool, reinstalling and running the updates?
