InDesign keeps crashing since most recent updates have been loaded

Hey all...

Three of us here at work have updated our Creative Cloud applications (Bridge, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator - three days ago) and since then have experienced frequent InDesign crashes.....it just unexpectedly quits for no good reason.  Once I was applying a gradient. Another time I was just nudging text over. Most recently I was adding a feather to a photo.  This problem is happening to all three of us which makes me think it is a problem with the updates?????

Help....

Here's a fix for Hyperlink panel crashing:

InDesign CC 2017 crashes on macOS

I have the latest update and have experienced that the program freezes at unexpected times and the only way to deal with it is to reboot my computer.(I have Windows 10) It will then work fine for a time, and then at random times --sometimes after working fine for a day or two, it will just freeze again. Very frustrating. I still have my InDesign cs6 on my computer. When I tried to open it it asked me to convert, so I reopened it in CC and saved a copy then opened in cs6 again and let it convert. It looked fine, so until they fix the glitch I will be working in the old version. It looks like this is a long standing problem. What a drag.

For 3 weeks now, we have had a steady Indesign. Started out with crashes every hour. Had to reset prteferences every time. Since I found out, that some personal libs were stored at our fileserver, I moved them into the local Indesign folder and reconnected to the new location at the local HD, we have had NO crashes. Refering to earlier blogmessage. This was the cure in my group of designers Macs.

My Indesign is now running without any crashes since i moved all scripts, shotcut libs and other plugins to the mother ID-folder in Applications/Indesign on the local HardDisk. This seemed to do the trick with the unstability. It was not intended to scatter any files of regular use across the network.

    Good luck.

Hi. I have had the same experience with Mac Indesign ver. 11.4 2015. Update

I used ver 11.3 on 8 Macs in a studio and did not have any problems running ID. One of the employees wanted to upgrade because of some funny glitch in the Scripts setup.

After this one update, he started having numerous crashes. Had to reset preferences everytime but crashed frequently.

I tried to reinstal ver 11.3 but got problems with scripting ( hieracally) And reinstalled ver 11.4 .

I just happened to discover, trying his HD at the serviceshop, and found ID calling for a personal library stored in a folder on their Dataserver.

I copied this shortcut-keyboard lib. on to a new folder on his local HD in the ID folder (in Applications folder), relinking the lib request to this new local folder, and wupti the unstable ver 11.4 is now running for two days without a crash.

I think Apple or Adobe has something with network setups - maybe timeouts ? because I also have had crashes when somebody in their SuitCase.app  pointed to a font folder, stored on the same remote server . This was also very unstable at the local user.

It is explained in a reply at the top of this blog, but not taken seriously I think.

Just updated all the CC apps on a Dell XPS-15 running Windows 10 a half an hour ago.

InDesign freezes on launch and has to be shut down via Task Manager.

Illustrator is doing something similar but *sometimes* works.

I'm a teacher of the applications and I just went to open a student's assessment submission for InDesign and had this problem.

Seriously, I wish I could go back to CS6 and stay there.

24 hours later, problem seems to have resolved itself. InDesign launch eventually, but it took ages. Problem for me seems to be loading the initial "start" screen. I've now disabled that, as I always do. Seems to be OK now. Ditto for Illustrator.

I cannot get the program to launch. Downloaded version 11.4.1.102. this morning because it said "fixed crashing" which I was not having issues. Now Indesign won't even launch.

    Hello All,

Please upgrade to the latest InDesign update (11.4.1.102).

The new update fixes a lot of crashes that we reported with the previous release.

Issue of intermittent crash while working with effects/gradients/X-ref when the documents are saved on the network have been addressed in the new update.

This has been happening to me as well since the last update. I'm working on Windows 7 Pro (which is not a recent upgrade), a local install (files are on my computer and not on our network), and a Cloud subscription. It seems to happen only when I'm moving an object. Doesn't matter what type of object it is—a text box, an image, etc. It happens when using just the cursor or when I hold the Shift key in combination. When I relaunch after the crash, the CC library panel **always** appears somewhere on the page. (I do not have that panel set up in my custom workspace.)

    It is EXTREMELY ANNOYING.

I've been working with InDesign almost since its inception. I don't believe one second that it's not a bug.

I have the same problem. Keeps popping up after crash. Trashing the cash helps, but that's not a good solution.

I think we've stumbled onto a solution to our problem. To repeat, running Windows 10, we could not successfully launch InDesign CC 2015. The only way to launch it was to manually delete the preference files each time.

I happened to notice that there were some obsolete preference folders hanging around (from some very old installations of InDesign), so I deleted them. That did the trick.  Hope this helps some of you.
