InDesign Keyboard shortcuts not working until the text text tool is selected

For a year I've been searching the web for somebody with this same problem!!!

Every time I open a document ... none of my keyboard commands work....UNTIL I select the type tool and highlight a text field.. and then switch back to my Black arrow selection tool.  After I do this everything returns to normal.

This happens every single time i open a new document, which is 20 plus times a day.

I rely on keyboard shortcuts and even to pdf, package, or print a document, I have to do the above clicking around with the mouse just to get the keyboard to respond.

    Try resetting your InDesign preferences.

    Also try unticking GPU performance in InDesign preferences (if you have it).

    Thanks for reaching out. As per your query, you have to do multiple hit and trials to make keyboard shortcuts work in InDesign. That's not a usual experience with InDesign and I understand how frustrating it could. Let us help you make this right.

    Could you please share a few more details like:

    • OS (Exact version of Windows/MAC)
    • Exact version of InDesign
    • Does keyboard shortcuts work fine in general (in other applications)?
    • Does your system has Suitcase Fusion installed?
    • Do you have Wacom connected to your system?
