InDesign - Links asking to be updated constantly

We are running a design team of roughly 7/8 Designers who are all running the most update version of CC & indesign more specifically.

When we open any file, sometimes it opens perfectly and updates links without prompt, other times we can open the same file and it asks the user to update the links. You could be half way through working on the file & it randomly brings up the small yellow triangle suggesting that the links have been lost or need updating, even though the linked file has not been updated in any way.

This is very sporadic & no real pattern to the why this happens.

The files are located on a synology via a file server ISCSI Target - The macs are connecting with AFP to the file server

Any ideas on how to solve this issue as it is becoming more of an issue as it is taking a-lot of the designers time in the day?

Thank you

Matthew, there have been several recent posts to the forums about this. It's a nagging problem for a lot of folks, mainly Mac users from what I can tell.

    See this forum discussion:

Links status perpetually set to "Modified"

Read to the end to see all of the suggestions. Let us know what worked.

You did not say what operating system that you are on but it does sound like a network related problem. Many times there are background activities going on over a network. If your InDesign files are trying to maintain their links over that network to the connected server any (even momentary) interruption within the network might be causing a "hiccup" which is breaking the links. Check with your network administrator to make sure that all network software is up to date and that possibly disruptive background activity is scheduled late at night or any other time that company work is not being produced.

... synology via a file server ISCSI Target

What is that? It might be the source of the problem.

Michael, "Synology" is a brand of NAS (network accessible storage) that allows workgroups of Macs and PCs to store and sharefiles without the need for a full-blown file server.

It really has no operating system but does have protocols that need to be set correctly for Macs and PCs. Have one at my studio and it works like a dream. Love it!

I doubt it's the cause of this problem with modified files.
