Question

InDesign needs better gradient control

InDesign has been around for like 25 years now and STILL all we have for gradient control is a linear and radial gradient. Can Adobe please add other styles to bring this software into the 2020’s? Copying and pasting gradients from Illustrator is ridiculous and doesn’t work well. as others have commented on previously.

There are posts like this:

That are 2 years old and the OP is correct. It’s a ridiculous process. It needs a modern panel. You also have to try to drag a color swatch from another panel onto a little tiny color square in the gradient panel to change the color. Why not just allow us to click on the color square in the gradient ramp and choose a color from there? It would save SO much time and frustration.

This shouldn’t even be a feature that users have to request. This should be Adobe’s team saying, “This is what needs to be updated in InDesign right now. I (and many other frustrated designers) would much rather have usable features like this than AI that we don’t need added to software.

    Hi @timz67519437,

I completely understand how important these improvements are to your workflow, and I apologize that InDesign doesn't currently provide this level of gradient control.

Would you mind creating or upvoting the existing UserVoice request for this feature and adding your comments there? This helps the product team better understand the demand, prioritize the request, and ensures you'll be notified of any updates:

In the meantime, I'll also share your feedback with the product team and check whether there are any updates or existing plans related to this request. I'll be sure to post back here if I receive any new information.

If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. We'd be happy to help.

    Abhishek

That request was created in 2018. 2018! People are already commenting in there about how Adobe has done nothing about that since it was created. So, my 1 vote will mean nothing.

That site also requires me to create a brand new account and doesn’t use my Adobe account.

    Hi @timz67519437,

Yes, that's correct. UserVoice requires a separate account, but you can use the same email address associated with your Adobe account when creating it.

I completely understand your concern, especially given how long the request has been open. In the meantime, I'm also checking internally with the product team to get a more concrete update on the status of this request, and I'll share any information I receive here. Please know that we genuinely value this feedback. Adobe is continuously working to improve InDesign and refine its capabilities to better support real-world workflows and evolving user needs.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts and helping us identify areas where the product can be improved.

    Abhishek
