InDesign Not Saving Over a Months Work

We created an InDesign file on September 13 for our publication. This file is saved on Google Drive with gigs of space still available. We have done several weeks worth of work on this file. And manually saved the work everyday.

Today, opening the file shows none of the saved changes. It shows the September 13 date as last modified. We are horrified.

What could possibly be going wrong?

We are using InDesign version 31.1 on a new iMac that was running High Sierra at the time. It now has Mojave on it.

Please advise.

You should never direct save InDesign (or any Adobe file) to a remote drive - either networked or cloud based- from the application. Always save local and copy over to the final destination.

This is a common workflow for any Adobe application. Anything could go wrong writing directly to a remote location depending on the stability of the connection.

The fact that I'm assuming yesterday you had a copy of the document stored successfully in the Google drive leads me to believe that your file has been saving to a different destination than the original files location. Try looking around to see if it is stored somewhere else.

There have been quite a few reports about problems using the Google Drive with InDesign. There appears to be some major incompatibility between the program and the drive. My suggestion would be to always back up all of your work locally and then use the drive for group access. I would also suggest contacting Google directly about using their drive with InDesign.
