Question

InDesign not working, it's "checking". Not responding at all.

Hi everyone,
I’m dealing with a big issue and I’ve tried everything I can think of. Whenever I try to open an InDesign file, the program freezes immediately. I can’t edit anything, and at the bottom it just says  Checking, but it never changes or progresses.

I’ve already deleted the cache, removed all related InDesign folders, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and even tried installing different versions. Nothing has worked - every time I open the file, it gets stuck on Checking.

Does anyone have any advice? I’m losing my mind over this.

Well. Yeah me. At least I get to work on my project for about 12 seconds before it crashes. Again. And again. And again. Who on earth signed this mess of?

What version of InDesign? What operating system? How much RAM?

Try turning off preflight.

Checking what?

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the
Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Hello @shakhnoza_9676,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I hope Eugene's suggestions helped resolve the problem. If not, try running InDesign under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and checking if it helps.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
