Question

InDesign objects + layers to Illustrator

I've been searching for a while and maybe my terminolgy is not the best.

But basically, I have InDesign files, with lots of layers. And I want to take what's on the InDesign file

Copy it to Illustrator file

Retain the layers and structure

And retain the order within the layers so the stacking is the same

Any one know of or come across a script that does this?

I don't think that's possible. Illustrator has a structure which has similarities to InDesign, but also many differences. The applictions were developed over a long time by two different development teams and were created for different purposes. You can copy certain features like formatted text, but not the document structure.

The differences are to great to automatially make that kind of transition  between the two applications. I've never heard of either scripts or plug-ins which can accomplish that.

Thanks for the reply, Steve

I get that the structures are different.

But to go from InDesign and copy the layer name and all the items on the layer

Create the layer in illustrator and paste all the items on that layer.

I know there's an InDesign to Photoshop script

So just checking if anyone has a script for InDesign to Illustrator.

I get it might not be possible.

I've learned through hard experience to ever say that something can't be done. But I've been hanging around these forums for long enough so I strongly doubt that someone has done it and let others know about it. (But I could be proved wrong!)

Here's hopin'!
