InDesign/OneDrive link issue

Hello,
I'm encountering some issue with InDesign while working in collaboration with my colleagues on OneDrive.
Up until June 2025 everything worked fine. From July until now everytime I open an InDesign file all the links seems fine (green dot, no error) until I try to export a PDF. In that moment an error window appears and says that some files might be unavailable. Meanwhile in the link panel I cannot choose "Update all link" and neither the "update link in the same folder" option is available.

This means that I have to re-link each image/file by hand.
Someone might say I could be a slow connection issue but file transfer such as wetransfer is working just fine. I also tried to uninstall & reinstall both InDesign (20.5) and OneDrive. Nothing has changed.

I can recognize the broken link on images because they appear like that in the preview mode
(see screenhots).

Thanks in advance!
best - Andrea

The following might be potentially destructive:

How to reset OneDrive

Anyone brave enough to do this as a test to see if it begins to behave better with InDesign, should do so only after backing up / protecting existing document assets. I would not necessarily trust their statement that it will harm no files.

<caution> This is a guess and it is unknown whether or not this is a factor.

Hi Endi,

For what its worth, there has been a sharp uptick in the number of fellow users posting the same problem just in the last couple months. In this same webpage screen on the right is "Related Conversations" and many of them seem to be macOS users, from my reading. Other than ensuring to do what Bob already mentioned, I haven't yet seen a definitive answer to this emerging InDesign+OneDrive problem.

Thanks Mike!
I'll look deep into the Related Conversations and maybe someone will come up with a solution.

Do you have "Available on this device" enabled for that folder? If not, make sure to turn that on for all users. "Available when online" can cause InDesign to time out while trying to download all the files.

Hello Bob, thanks for this (hopefully) helpful comment.
I'm using the OneDrive app on my Macbook Pro M1, but I've sync'd everything, even downloaded on my mac just to be sure to avoid problems. Since we have basically everything from the office I cannot download every file on my HD, but I use it on request. But the funny thing is that I'm the only one on the team that has this issue. One colleague with a Mac OS and two with Windows does not have issue with InDesign files.
