InDesign + OS X Mavericks = Slooow?

Since updating, I don't know what is going on, but I'm experiencing awfully slow performance from InDesign.

I have a MBP Retina 15 Inch 2.3Ghz, 16Gb Ram. Put it this way, I've never, ever experienced that slow feeling on this thing. Never. And suddenly after installing Mavericks, I'm experiencing that slow motion feeling.

Is it just me, or is anyone else getting this?

Correct answer BDinkar

there have been two updates in January, none of them addressed the "performace" nor the "preferences" corruption issue

my issues:

  • obviously SLOOOOWWWWW
  • ID interface reverts to dark grey (which i hate)
  • the Control pane has to be open at all times, if you close ID will creash on quit (confirmed by Adobe tech support)

An update for InDesign CC (9.2) is now live and is available via the creative cloud installer. This update resolves several performance problems. In addition, the update includes epub enhancements, Typekit Desktop Font Integration and Hyperlink simplification. Please give it a try.

Me too! It's horrible. I was crusing along at lightening speed before the update, now it lags big time.

Hi All

I am not sure if this is a fix but it has helped my situation. In InDesign Prefs under Type turn off font preview then restart.

I noticed that of the two ways to change a font one int he controls and one in the drop down menu under type the menu route was faster as it wasn't redrawing the font previews

it might also help to only show favourites in the listing if you really like having previewed fonts.

I hope that might help.

I complained to Adobe about this problem and someone from the InDesign team adviced me to turn of 3rd party software, like font management software. In my case I was running Suitcase Fusion 3. Once I turned it off everything was back to normal!

He also insurred my that the team is trying to find out what's wrong and create a solution!

Hope it's true... and they find it VERY soon!

Hm. I'd check  and ask here:

http://www.extensis.com/downloads/compatibility-guides/suitcase-fusion-compatibility-guide/

Seems to me that Suitcase Fusion 3 will not run on or work well with Mavericks (OSX 9).

That said, OSX9 is not even mentioned in that list…

Instantly post-Mavericks install, InDesign CC is glitchy and slow like it is doing something else in the background - I am using FontAgent Pro 6.010 so it kinda hints at something else other than font handling issues. I too have twin displays using a 27" iMac i7 custom build and a 23" cinema display. Tabbing the controls pallette works for a short while seemingly but it is painful to work with - It's like there isn't enough RAM - I have 16GB and very little else open. This is ugly.

If it was working fine before the upgrade than blame the upgrade. While

there's nothing wrong with giving it a shot, you should always be

prepared for it to fail and to do a clean install.

I'm having the same issues -- turned off all the window panes I could and reduce thumbnail size for pages -- also turned off Suitcase 5 even though I updated yesterday to 16.0.2

Takes almost 3 secs to go from the direct selct tool to the type tool -- highlighting, moving objects is stiil a chore.

This is killing myu production time

My machine specs are :Intel Core i7 - 9700F CPU @ 3.00 GHZ 8 core 64 GB of ram 64 bit operating system NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 with 164 MB memory Monitor is BenQ PD3200U 4K UHD - hooked up via HDMIandMac mini (M1, 2020) - 16GB Ram - 2TB SSD

There is a similar report in this forum. The fix was to reset/trash Indesign CC preferences.

No problems for me in InDesign CC and Maverick.

Mark sure you've updated InDesign CC to 9.1.
