InDesign - "Out of memory" Issue

Hello, we have the latest version of InDesgin and are experiencing problems when exporting to JPEG by using the maximum quality available.

I would like to mention that exporting to PNG, PDF, or any other files extension is fine. The only issue is exporting to JPEG extension.

The computer has 16GB of RAM and it's usually running at around 50% usage so this seems strange that could be the real cause of the issue.

Is anyone experiencing this issue as well? Are there any fixed released by Adobe?

Thanks so much in advanced for your help.

Same issue here - using 829 GB of 952GB of hard drive space. My JPG export would have been under 1 GB.
My CPU is averaging to 12%

Memory 54%
Annoying this issue is popping up.

I have 64GB of ram (only using ~20% on other processes) and am having the same error exporting an 8' x 4.25' document to JPEG @ 300ppi. Wondering if INDD itself has a set limit of ram usage that I cant change?

Export a PDF and open that in Photoshop. Way better workflow.

Can you show a screen capture of the out of memory alert? Is it RAM or virtual disk space?

Just in case it's not clear, the error reads:
" Failed to export the JPEG file: Not enough memory. Try adjusting the JPEG export settings."

Then, if we try to export to a lower resolution, it does work. If we export to PNG with the maximum resolution, it works fine too.

So what exactly are your JPEG Export options?

Note: Renaming exported PNG files to *.jpg makes no sense at all.

Hi Cynthia,

as a workaround export to PDF X-4 wthout downsampling images, open the PDF in PhotoShop as smart object and export as JPEG ( legacy web export ) from PhotoShop.

Thanks Laubender. While your solution could work.. I don't think having to export to Photoshop first is a good solution but more of a workaround. What we have been doing so far is to export to PNG with the maximum quality and the rename that to .jpg.

However, we would like to know why we are getting that error and if it's a problem in InDesing more than our computer.

Just a note for anyone following this:  Renaming your png to jpg is really just "window dressing" The underlying code for your image is still png. Any file you import that "png/jpg" into will just ignore your .jpg extension because the file code itself is still png. Sorry, but renaming really is just superficial.

Hi Mike! Thanks for your reply but unfortunately the link did not help for our specific issue.
