Indesign Pages Gone

I am editing my indesign file and I have been saving along the way because about a month ago my file deleted itself entirely and I had to start over from scratch. Now all of a sudden 8 pages in the middle of my book have deleted themselves. There is still the content but on the pages panel it the pages appear empty and everything ont the "pages" is messed up. Photos are gone or resized, pages are gone entirely. This is insane. Please help. Thanks.

Hi Thomas:

I understand your distress.

Let's focus on the 8 middle pages. Do you have a back-up file available from before the middle pages changed? (This is why incremental backups are so important. We can create them ourselves by regularly saving a project under a new name—typically appending a new date or time to the end of the filename—or we can save to a cloud service that does it automatically, like dropbox. Any file can become corrupt at any time—Adobe, Microsoft, etc. Backups are a critical workflow component.)

If you haven't done that, and don't have the file on a back-up drive, I'd look at this page:

https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/troubleshoot-file-issues.html

Make a backup of this file and the scroll down to Damaged files and click on I can open this document and work through the list under Complete the following tasks in order.
