InDesign Performance issues since upgrading to macOS Catalina

I've recently upgraded the operating system to Catalina. Since doimg this I'm having constant issues with InDesign. The spinning wheel can appear when trying to open InDesign or performing any simple task. The Indesign icon can also appear in my sidebar showing as open but I can't physically see it.

Any ideas?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with InDesign. Along with the version of InDesign, I would request if you can share a few more details like:

  1. Do you see the spinning wheel while opening any file or when you just launch InDesign?
  2. Could you please confirm one of the tasks that you perform after which you see the spinning wheel?
  3. Does this happen on a specific file? If yes, where is the file saved, locally or on any network or shared drive?
  4. Could you please share detailed system specification, details including RAM and Graphic Cards.

Regards

Rishabh

Hi, here are the answers to your questions;

InDesign 10.0.1

Spinnng wheel happens at different points, opening InDesign, trying to save a document and even just whilst I moved to select the layers menu.
I've also just encountered the same with Acrobat Pro after a pdf opened the spinning whell started. So there's no consistany in when it happens.

This can happen on random files, not the same one.

Upgraded to Catalina 10.15.2

MacBook Pro 2017

8GB Memory

I have spoken with Adobe and they say the problem is not with the apps but with Catalina.

Spoke with Apple and the issue didn't occur after a Safe roboot. Typocal when someones watching - but after that it did happen intermittantly.

Also, once I've had to force quit InDesign, when I try to re-open it shows it's open in the dock but you can't physically see it. So I have to do a full closwe down.
