InDesign Preflight Shows Segoe UI Missing Despite Font Being Installed and Visible

Suddenly, my InDesign is giving me 110 Pre-Flight errors, all saying that my Segoe UI font is missing.  It appears in the document OK but how do I get rid of the error messages and assuage the software?  Do I somehow reinstall the font?

    Hi @jpgringo3sav,

Just wanted to check in with you. Has the issue been resolved after trying the suggestions shared above, or are you still seeing the missing font errors?

If it’s still happening, could you please share the InDesign version and your OS details? Also, it would help to know if Segoe UI is coming from Adobe Fonts, the system fonts folder (C:\Windows\Fonts), or any third party source. Please make sure there are no duplicate versions of the font installed.

Additionally, if possible, please share a screenshot of the Find/Replace Font panel after selecting the font, so we can confirm the font path and details.

In the meantime, please try clearing the font cache and go through the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this article:

Let me know how it goes, and I’ll be happy to help further based on your update.

@jpgringo3sav The font Segoe UI is an Adobe font, so there are few of the possible reasons why it is showing as missing. First it could be that the font be available both in your System font and in the Creative Cloud as well. So, what you can do is that, save the InDesign file and then force quit the InDesign application from Task manager/Activity Monitor, open fonts.adobe.com and then search for the name of the font and remove it and then add it again. After that launch the Creative Cloud Desktop application, go to the fonts tab and then you will see the list of the fonts added. There you will see that the font might be added but not installed, so you need to click on the “Install” button and then after that the fonts will be installed. That will fix your issue.

In case the issue still persists, then use the CC Cleaner tool and clean reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop application (make sure before doing that force quit the CCDA) and after that reinstall the CCDA, you will see that the fonts will start syncing and your issue will be resolve.

Please do let me know if that works.

Here is the link to use the CC Cleaner tool: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/apps/troubleshoot/diagnostics-repair-tools/run-creative-cloud-cleaner-tool.html

     Thank you.

    > The font Segoe UI is an Adobe font

Segoe UI is a Microsoft font. You can check this by looking at its properties. It’s available on Adobe Fonts, but that doesn’t make it an Adobe font. What that does do, seemingly, is trigger the oft-reported OpenType vs TrueType font drop.

    >  First it could be that the font be available both in your System font and in the Creative Cloud as well.

I’d think you’d want to say here “it could be that the font is installed in your system, and activated by Adobe Fonts as well.” Then you could offer instructions for either deactivating the Adobe font or uninstalling the locally installed font, which would require separate instructions for Mac and Windows platforms. The part where you suggest force-quitting, to me, makes no sense whatsoever. What is the advantage of force-quitting here?

    > In case the issue still persists, then use the CC Cleaner tool and clean reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop application

I don’t mean to be overly harsh here, but this sounds like bad advice to me. Why in the world would you do a full uninstall for this issue?

It looks to me like both Abhishek and J E L have offered sound advice regarding font management for this issue. I’m willing to consider the possibility that there might be justifications for force-quitting InDesign, or doing a full uninstall with the Clean Tool to resolve an issue. However, on behalf of the random Google-searchers who might find your post, I feel compelled to post a reply saying “Really? No, that sounds like a bad idea, maybe consider following other, less invasive troubleshooting suggestions before you pull out the Clean Tool.”

@jpgringo3sav, in addition to what @leo.r suggested, look in your Creative Cloud Desktop app under fonts to see if Segoe UI is an added or installed font. Actually, I’m not sure Segoe UI is available for installation through Adobe fonts. I have it added and can use it in documents, but the preview indicates “Unable to install this font.” You can check and re-add the family from Adobe fonts again if you need to here: https://fonts.adobe.com/fonts/segoe-ui. You might need to quit all the way out of Creative Cloud and come back in. Please let us know if you still have problems!

When you double-click the errors in the Preflight panel, what does InDesign show?
