I was looking to purchase the Indesign software for business. I can see that there are 2 plans - Annual prepaid and annual monthly plan. What is the difference between the two because both the amount comes to same. What is the disadvantage and advatage of both the plans ?

Just to claify, there are four options:

  1. Subscribe to the Creative Cloud and pay monthly. Currently at on sale* at $39.99 US per month BUT contracted for one year. Normally $52.99 per month.
  2. Subscribe to the Creative Cloud and pay for the entire year at once. Currently on sale* for $479.88 US. Normally $599.88 for year. Unfortunately, Adobe does NOT discount for paying for the entire year upfront--just eliminates the monthly payments.
  3. Subscribe to the Creative Cloud on a as needed basis. Currently $79.49 per month. The advantage is you don't have to pay for months you are not using it.
  4. Subscribe to ONLY InDesign for $29.99 US per month. Not a good option since you usually need more than InDesign.

*Apparently the sale ended but the prices are still listed.

The difference is if you buy it monthly - you are billed that amount each month. If you don't want it anymore - say for a furloughing period or even a crisis at the company or you're simply taking a month's holiday - you can stop paying it any month you like.

If you buy it annually - you are billed once and have a license for the year. And would be required to renew your license at the end of 12 months.

From Adobes website:

What is the difference between the annual and month-to-month plan? The annual plan requires a one-year commitment and is our best value. It comes with a 14-day money back guarantee. If you cancel after that, you'll be charged a 50% fee for the remaining months.

That's not the OP's question.

The OP wants to know the difference between paying for a year up front or paying it monthly, in installments.

There is no difference after the year is up, but it's important to note that you are committing to paying for a year. It's a contract and you can't cancel it without a penalty.
