Indesign's eyedropper tool not populating the fill or stroke swatch

Subject says it all really. The colour theme tool works as advertised but the eyedropper tool is broken i.e. sampling a document color is not then populating the fill or stroke swatch with that color. (Mac OS 11.7.4, ID CC v. 18.2.1)

This is not happening for other people, including me. 

 

If this only happens in one file, I'd suggest there may be subtle corruption in your file. Try saving the file as IDML. Choose File > Save As > InDesign CS4 or Later [IDML]. After saving the IDML, open it in InDesign to see if this is fixed.

 

If it happens to you in all files, I'd suggest restoring your InDesigns preferences and caches. This article describes how to do this:
