Indesign’s "print booklet" export directly to PDF

Because the latest distiller settings are tougher and error frequently, InDesign users need a way to easily export documents as print spreads (imposed from reader spreads) from the “print booklet” option. Currently I can either print to my home printer or print to postscript, but not print to pdf.

Hi @SCA LLC,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

As per all the details you've shared, I understand you’re looking for a way to export Print Booklet output directly to PDF instead of relying on the current PostScript and Distiller workflow. At this time, InDesign does not offer a direct PDF export option from the Print Booklet feature, and this is a known product limitation rather than an issue with your document or workflow.

I understand that this functionality is important to you, and I apologize for its unavailability at this time. Would you mind upvoting the following UserVoice request and adding your comments there? Doing so helps our product team better understand the demand for this enhancement and allows you to receive updates if there is any progress on the request:

Hi @SCA LLC , Imposition like trapping is a printer specific, so like trapping I doubt it will be added to the PDF export. I would worry about a commercial printer expecting a client to provide an imposed PDF.

You can try this simple imposition script, which outputs a PDF that imitates InDesign’s limited Print Booklet imposition:
