InDesign Share for Review Comments Becoming Unmapped from Pins After Document Updates

I’ve seen this problem mentioned in the InDesign Community a few times in the past, but has anyone recently had problems with Share for Review comments unmapping from their pins?

This just started with a project we are working on this month. Pins are fine on the weblink. If I open the review panel in InDesign they all unmap, and when the review link is updated they are all unmapped both online and in app

    Hi @3thought,

Sorry to hear you're running into this. I've discussed it with the product team - they haven't been able to consistently reproduce the behavior on their end, so a few additional details will help them narrow down the cause.

    Please confirm:

    1. The exact InDesign version used by each collaborator
    2. Whether everyone is accessing the Share for Review link in the same browser

    Please also test:

    1. Opening the review in another browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox) and note whether the behavior changes.
    2. Ask all collaborators to refresh the Review workspace:
      • Window > Workspace > Review, then Window > Workspace > Reset Review
      • Or use the shortcut: Ctrl + Alt + / (Windows) / Cmd + Opt + / (macOS)
Let us know if the pins are mapped again after the reset.

    If possible, please also share:

    1. A screen recording from both collaborators showing the same review link
    2. The Share for Review URL
    3. The InDesign document before and after updating the review link

These details will help the product team reproduce and investigate the issue. You can upload any recordings and files to Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar and share a public link here or via DM.

    Looking forward to your update.

Currently having the same issues. A colleague is adding pins to a link. On her side it is showing up on the page. But on my side they are unmapped. It's incredibly frustrating that Adobe software just doesn't seem to work consistently. Have there been any solutions or even a reason as to why this keeps happening?

    Hi @Grace29278513l8ei,

Sorry to hear you're running into this issue. I discussed this with the product team, and they'd like a few more details to help narrow down the cause, as they haven't been able to consistently reproduce the behavior.

Could you please confirm the exact InDesign version being used by all collaborators and whether everyone is accessing the Share for Review link using the same browser? It would also be helpful if you could test the review in another browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox). Additionally, please ask all collaborators to refresh the Review workspace by going to Window > Workspace > Review, then Window > Workspace > Reset Review, or by using the shortcut Ctrl + Alt + / (Windows) or Cmd + Opt + / (macOS), and let us know if the pins become mapped again.

If possible, please also share a screen recording from both collaborators showing the same review link, along with the Share for Review URL and the InDesign document before and after updating the review link. These details will help the product team better understand and reproduce the issue.

    Looking forward to your update.

    Abhishek

    Hi @franks65267173  and @joe806root

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear that you experience this. To help investigate this further, could you please confirm the exact version of Adobe InDesign you’re using along with your operating system details?

It would also be very helpful if you could share screenshots showing where the comment pins appear on the Share for Review web page, and then the corresponding location in the InDesign Comments panel/layout where they appear unmapped. This will help us compare how the pins are being interpreted between the web review and the InDesign document.

    Looking forward to your update.

It just happened again. All of the pins in my Share for Review document became unmapped. I’m using v 21.3. I can’t show you where they were because they’re no longer pinned. This is really frustrating.

Yes, the "unmapping" pins in Share for Review remain a frustrating and persistent issue in 2026, often triggered by page reflows, reordering spreads, or even minor changes to master pages that break the coordinate anchors for comments. When InDesign can't reconcile the old layout with the new update, it dumps those pins into an "unmapped" or "orphaned" state, a problem compounded by the fact that the web version often shows the pins correctly while the InDesign panel fails to sync them. To minimize this, many in the community have pivoted back to the Import PDF Comments workflow—which is significantly more stable for tracking specific layout markers—or they ensure they never move or delete pages once a review link has been generated.

I had just made simple text edits… nothing in the layout changed. I updated the Share for Review link and now a dozen or so pins are unmapped.

    Hi @franks65267173,

Thanks for writing back. Since the issue appears to be intermittent, I understand it may be difficult to capture consistently.

However, the product team would still really appreciate a short screen recording showing the workflow that typically leads to the issue from your side, even if the unmapped behavior does not happen every single time.

If possible, please feel free to share the recording with me via DM.

Thanks again for your help and patience while we continue investigating this.

    Abhishek
