Question

InDesign shows blank grey screen after Mac wakes from sleep (content not visible, only selection boxes)

Already an older version of ID had this bug, but years ago the screen was white grey, now dark greay.

how to happend: 1. Mac sleep, 2. Mac awake, 3. all ID screen is dark grey, even if refreshing or changing zoom or position. 4. I can select elements, but I see only the blue selectors, not the content or background. 5. need to quit ID and to restart to work as usual. 6. not seeing the content I sometimes do not know If I should save or not – risking to loose the work.

    Hi @waldemarker,

Sorry for the experience here, I can understand how frustrating it is when the screen goes blank like this.

Based on your description, this looks very similar to a known issue where InDesign turns grey after the Mac wakes from sleep, even though objects remain selectable.

Could you please take a look at these threads and confirm if what you’re seeing matches this behavior?

If it does, then this issue has already been reproduced and a bug is logged with the team. I’m also checking this further from my end and will keep you posted as soon as I have any updates.

In the meantime, please try turning off GPU Performance from InDesign Preferences under Performance and restart the app, and see if that helps.

Let me know how it goes and if the behavior matches the shared threads, so I can take this forward accordingly.

Yes it’s the same, but it’s not a new bug, I suppose to have it over 2 years.

    Hi @waldemarker,

Thanks for confirming that the behavior matches.

To help us investigate this further, could you please share your exact InDesign version and macOS version? Also, let me know if this happens every time your Mac wakes from sleep or only occasionally, and whether it is specific to certain documents or happens with all files. If possible, please share a short screen recording of the issue in action, even a phone recording would work, so I can check this further with the team.

    Looking forward to your update.

    Abhishek
