I jsut want to work on my book.

Every so often atleast at like 25~30 mins the program is crashing, lagging or not repsoding and making my whole mac studio lock up.

What is the whole issue with this program? Is adobe actually fixing anyhting that wrong with it?

If i have to switch to some oher program i will but i have about 67% of a book finished and his program is making it even harder to work.

Is it failing with any other documents?

If not, or if you want to rule out that your book file might be corrupted or faulty (it happens!), try this...

  • Save your book file to IDML format.
  • Open that file and save it as regular INDD format under a new name.

That should fix any file faults and stop the crashes if they are related.

Besides repeated crashes becoming a cause of file faults, it's wise to save projects using Save-As, to a new name, both for backup/recovery and to purge the file of bloat from undo and other working info. Get in the habit and you'll have fewer problems and backup versions when a real crisis hits.

Excellent advice and questions so far - I'll just add two of the most common fixes if the IDML doesn't fix the crashes.

Try resetting your preferences:

Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.
Further info and instructions here if needed:

-------------

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the
Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Try downloading the previous version of InDesign - it should be available in the Creative Cloud App.

And do you have a program called Magnet installed? Apparently it cuases issues with InDeisgn.
