InDesign Slows Down with MathType Equations Using MinionPro Font

Hi Team,

I need your assistance with an issue related to using the MinionPro font in MathType.

Please see the attached PDF. The document was processed in InDesign and includes MathType equations that use the MinionPro font. When working with this file, InDesign becomes very slow and difficult to use. For example export the PDF or update the mathtype images. However, when we replace MinionPro with another font, such as STIX Math, the performance returns to normal.

Could you please advise if there are any known issues with using MinionPro in this setup?

Thank you for your help.

    Hi @muralir77854934,

Thanks for sharing the details, and sorry to hear you’re running into this issue.

Could you please confirm the exact version of Adobe InDesign you’re using along with your OS details? Also, it would be really helpful if you could share the source InDesign file after packaging it using the steps here: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/preflighting-files-handoff.html#package_files

You can share the packaged file via Google Drive, Dropbox, or any other cloud service. If the file is confidential, feel free to send it via DM. This will allow us to test the setup with MinionPro and MathType more thoroughly on our end.

    Looking forward to your update.

    Abhishek

Hi Abhishek, We are using the version mentioned below, and I have shared the InDesign package.
I observed that changing the font from Minion Pro Italic (OpenType) to Minion Italic (TrueType) improves performance.

    Indesign version 21.0
    OS: Windows 11th edition.

    Hi @muralir77854934,

Thanks for sharing the file and the details. Could you please confirm if you’re using the MathType plugin with Adobe InDesign? If yes, it would be helpful to test the same workflow without the plugin to check if the issue still occurs. Also, please share the developer name of the plugin you’re using.

Before you test that, I’d recommend clearing the font cache and then relaunching InDesign. You can follow the steps here: https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-illustrator-indesign.html

Please let me know how it goes. Looking forward to update.

    Abhishek

Hi, We noticed that the slowdown starts from the very first equation inserted in the document. Even the initial equation appears slower compared to when using other fonts.

As more equations are added, the performance continues to degrade further, making the document progressively slower.

Please let us know if you need any additional information.

I wonder if the amount of MathType is the reason. There are a lot of equations!! do you notice the slow down from the first equation or does it get worse as you keep adding more?
