InDesign Spell Check not working

Hi, Can anyone please help with a spell check issue?

We use InDesign 2023 with Windows 10 at work and have noticed that the InDesign spell check and dynamic spelling functions have not been working for some months. I have checked the preferences in Dictionary>Spelling are set to Hunspell, and have also tried resetting the language preference folder but nothing is working. It is a real issue now as we work on long documents in short time frames.

If anyone can please help, that would be great!

What do you mean by "not working?"

Dictionary selection in the prefs only tells the program which vendor's dictionary to use for each language. It does not se the language that is in use. That is a character level text attribute, typically set in your styles. If the spell check is not catching the proper mis-spellings it's typically because the wrong language is actually assigned to the text.

My guess is overprint preview is on.

When I open a new study guide to be translated (English-Spanish), for the first time the Spell check was Not working in either language.  On my last call to Adobe on this issue, the Tech found out that the screen on the computer was on Preview Mode, not on Normal. When it was changed to Normal, the Spell Check in both languages worked like before.

By not working I meant that spell check and dynamic spelling were not picking up words that were clearly mis-spelled.

Thank you for your explanation, I understand now. I had a differing language set in the paragraph styles to the dictionary.

Thanks for your help, that seems to have fixed it.
