InDesign stuck at "checking" state

At some point of the work, InDesign randomly stucks at a “checking” state. It doesn’t effect the work, the app works fine, only the cursor is “loading” which is really annoying.
ALSO when I finally lose my patiente, and try to close the app, it won’t close. I have to use task manager, to close it.

    Hi @Nelladel,

Thanks for reaching out, and I’m sorry you're experiencing this issue.

Could you please confirm the exact InDesign version you're currently using? If you're not already on the latest InDesign 21.5.1, please update through the Creative Cloud desktop app and test again.

If the issue persists on 21.5.1, go to Preferences > Generative AI, disable the Generative AI options, restart InDesign, and check whether the "Checking" behavior returns.

If you're still seeing the issue, please test InDesign in Windows Safe Mode to help isolate any third-party software or background-process interference:

    Looking forward to your update.

    Thanks,
    Abhishek

I forgot to mention, that the “undo” command also doesn’t work. I don’t know if this has to do anything with the other issue, but they appeared at the same time

Is your InDesign updated to its latest version?

Can you please elaborate: where do you see the “checking” state? Are there any processes in the Background Tasks panel?

Also, what are your versions of InDesign and Windows?

Can you post a screenshot that shows the cursor state?

Windows 11 23H2. The Backgound Tasks panel is empty. The “checking” shows on the photo. Unfortunatelly I can’t screenshot my cursor, but it’s the windows’ blue loading circle.

    It’s the preflight status.

If preflight affects you this way then it must be a particularly long or complex document, plus maybe in combination with a slower machine.

You can turn continuous preflight off and only turn it on when you do need to preflight your document:
