InDesign Swatches Panel, Color and Text switching Quick Buttons Busted?!?

Question

The ability to toggle and switch from solid to stroke or type in the swatches panel has disappeared (just to the left of Tint : see photo). This is immensly frustrating as it's an essential function in InDesign. Creative Cloud says I'm running the most up-to-date version. I cannot figure out why this function would be greyed out or removed.

Help! It's costing me precous time and causing major aggrivations.

When InDesign begins to behave erratically, consider rebuilding your cache and preferences. Doing so will solve most of these issues, and the link below explains both the keyboard technique (which works most of the time) as well as the more thorough approach to deleting (or renaming) your cache and preferences, which tends to resolve the more stubborn issues not rectified by the keyboard approach.
