InDesign Text Boxes Not Working & Curser Not Highlighting

Hello. I was running the most up-to-date version of InDesign on my Mac (using MacOS Sequoia 15.2—the latest) when I suddenly was not able to highlight any text. I also couldn't even make a new text box. Is anyone else having this issue? I did call support who guided me through trashing my system preferences for InDesign and then had me install an earlier version, but that also didn't work. Thanks in advance.

Correct answer AED

Thankfully it's working again after trashing my preferences and reinstalling it again. I'm not sure what happened. But thankfully it's resolved.

Had the same problem for a first time today.

Version 20.0 GM release build, no plug-ins yet. No extra fonts.

Preceding activity:

Working on a cloud-based document.

Text editing, copy paste text across applications, apply text styles.

Edit hyperlinks. Glyphs panel. More text editing.

The bad state was triggered by a mouse click for text navigation.

Noticed because I missed the flashing I beam caret. Selection did not work.

Then, more clicks around and attempts to use the keyboard navigation / shift select resulted in a crash.

Crash log smells of memory corruption, something writing where it should not.

Unfortunately I haven't yet prepared this version 20 for plug-in debugging, so no more details.

After restart and reopen the document had lost recent few edits, but selection works again.

Not yet repeated.

@2227730,

Are you on the 2024 version of InDesign, or did you install back the 2025 version? I’ve tested both, and it’s working fine for me.

Also, as the expert suggested, did you recently add any desktop management or third-party apps after which the issue started? Would you mind trying turning off GPU acceleration and see if that helps. You can also boot your Mac in Safe Mode to isolate and verify if any third-party app is causing this.

Let us know how it goes!

Best,
Abhishek

Thanks for the suggestion. I was able to re-install the lastest version and it did work. I have no idea what happened. Thanks for your suggestions.

Are you using Magnet by any chance?

No. I did end up just re-installing it again (after trashing any preferences) and it finally it working again.
