InDesign Text Reflows and Line Breaks Change on Different Computers Despite Same Fonts Installed

ID 20.3.1, macOS 14.8.2. When different users open the same document, with the same fonts installed, the line case changes. I suspect some underlying setting in the program, but what should I look for?

Ok, problem solved. It was the fonts, although I had the correct fonts activated in Extensis Connect. In EC both Adobe fonts and Google fonts are shown, but none of them where activated. But when I opened the document, InDesign secretly activated the Adobe font with the same name, and that was of course causing the problem! Thank you all for tips and ideas!

Even if the same font is used, it might  be a different version. To ensure to work with the very same font go to File > Package.

It will package fonts in the document fonts folder. These fonts are preferred used to fonts in other places and will stop changes to fonts with the same name,

If you look in your Preferences, under the “File Handling” section there’s a checkbox to “Auto-add Adobe Fonts” which is exactly how InDesign silently activated that font. If you turn that preference off, then InDesign should merely offer to activate a font, instead of doing so without user intervention.

First idea, without comparing your screenshots on a bigger screen:

    Check your user dictionaries.

If you manually sync them, make sure to restart InDesign afterwards to catch up with the changes.

Screenshots would help. Also, have you tried InDesign 21.2? Are you absolutely sure it’s the same version of the same font? Last update for InDesign 2025 was 20.5.2 so start by updating that and making sure everyone else has as well.

Screenshots attached! It is my computer causing the different line arrangement, and now I tried opening in InDesign 21.1, with the same result. Several other people can open it with correct adjustment in ID 2025 (have to check their specific version), it’s only me who has the problem.

I’ll try updating aswell, but since 21.1 gave the same result, maybe it’s not that much to hope for.

the screenshots: ”16.55.18” is the correct one, ”16.55.19” is mine.

My guess, and it’s just that, you’re using a different version of the font and the current version of InDesign is 21.2.
