Indesign to Esko (Nexus)

Hi:

I took .ai files and placed them in Indesign ( for layering puposes). I created a group page pdf (8-9) with seven pages. I then sent it to the Esko rip it ripped and created a trapped pdf. I was able to send pdf's to customer for approval and then even output colored proofs. We got and okay.

We then set up the images into two forums. One using one element and the other using the other elements. We sent one form (the one with one element) to the nexus rip for screening purposes. It went now problems. The next form sent having multiple elements will not rip and the esko or nexus rip gives no error messages. I called the tech and he says the nexus rip is very old and it might not have the computing power.

My problem two count.

One: Is there a way to get my form to the nexus and it rip.

Two: Is there a way to dumb the file down and get it to the rip.

Ladies and gents:

Problem solved: I tried different pdf versions all the way to 1.4, no avail.

I decided to go to the .ai file and work it.

In side the .ai file was a pattern set to several items. When using indesign, the elements had to be rotated to fit an imposition layout.

When I went to .ai to work the file I used the arrow and key functions to rotate the art board. It didn't work no way no how.

But when using the rotate function window. there is a check box calling for patterns to rotate with the image, please check.

I did that. I then flattened transparencies and expanded the points. It worked.

I still believe the problem would have been taken care of in a newer version of Esko or a Kodak rip.

I believe in Indesign and try to use it every day in every way but in this case I had to use .ai to solve the issue.

Pass it along.

@Steve and @Katie

I have a feeling that the opening poster IS the printer, albeit the prepress operator. It looks like the poster has also called Esko's tech support and have been told that the RIP is too old.

That said, I agree with Katie that this is an Esko issue and it is probably best to check out the Esko forums in this instance.

Could this be do to the complexity of your illustrator paths (Transparency flattener preset)? I agree with Steve, talk with your printer. But here is the support page for Esko as well:

Is this Esko RIP owned by your company? If so, the Esko operator needs to get help from Esko. Are you using an Esko RIP at a print vendor? In that case, it's the printer's responsibility to tell you how to prepare the file.

In neither case should YOU be responsible for figuring it out.
