InDesign tools behaving strangely, can’t move or edit normally

Just created a new document and placed an image. Whenever I try to move the image it is copied instead of moved. I inserted a text box and when I try to select the text to change the format, the box moves as though I was using the Hand tool. None of the tools are doing what they normally do or are supposed to do. I reinstalled an older version. Same problem. At the moment InDesign is unusable.

Hi @kdwpilgrim1,

That does sound frustrating. Could you confirm your OS and InDesign version, and let me know if this happens with all files or only specific ones? Please also try resetting InDesign preferences and testing in a new document to see if the tools respond normally. If the issue continues, a short screen recording would be really helpful. It would also be useful to know when this behavior first started and whether it followed any recent changes on your machine. To rule out third-party or account-specific issues, please test once in safe mode and with a new local admin account using the steps in these links:

macOS: https://adobe.ly/4n8z134

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

I am using a Macbook pro, OS Sequoia 15.6.1

The issue is happening with new docs and existing docs. It just started today.

How do I make a screen recording. It has been a long time since I did that.

I will reset the preferences and see what happens.
