InDesign Undo History Limited to 4–5 Steps After Latest Update

I can’t believe this is happening again. We really should get some sort of discount or refund for all the time we’re wasting lately with this issue.
After being solved, this problem shows up again with the last update. I suddenly lose all UNDO steps, past the last four or five, just like what happened a few months ago.
If the problem is related with the History panel, JUST DISABLE THE HISTORY PANEL. We didn’t have this issue before the panel, so I guess it has something to do with it.

    Hi @P4uloC4mpos,

Thanks for sharing the update, I understand how frustrating it is to see this issue return, especially in the prerelease build.

I checked with the product team and they were not able to reproduce this on their end. To take this further, could you please confirm if you’re seeing the issue in the latest release version, InDesign 21.3, as well?

It would also help if you could share a few additional details. Please check the memory pressure on your system by opening Activity Monitor, going to the Memory tab, and noting whether the graph shows green, yellow, or red when the issue occurs.

If possible, please try launching InDesign via Terminal using this path:
    /Applications/Adobe\ InDesign\ 2026/Adobe\ InDesign\ 2026.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ InDesign\ 2026

Then open the History panel and continue working until the undo issue appears. At that point, please copy the Terminal output and share it with us.

You can send these details to sharewithID@adobe.com so the team can review them further. You can also share the files here or via direct message using a cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox.

    Looking forward to your update.

I’m using Indesign 21.2 and this happens constantly, and when it’s happening Indesign won’t quit on its own.  I have to force quit.

Why not patch up to 21.3?

I'm having the SAME problem! And I'm using the Windows version Prerelease 21.4.0.49 of Indesign which, after an update, the history problem started again. How is this possible? How can Adobe not solve this basic problem?

Just in the prerelease prerelease version. I’ll uninstall this version and back to the official. Hope this bug was fixed definitely. Thanks.

macOS here. Undo just periodically disappears completely.

Latest update is Alpha or Beta standard, not release quality. Adobe charge a lot for this software and they seem to be getting distracted implementing features that you can pay $10 a month for elsewhere. Less work on the AI slop features and more attention on the essentials please!

Just to make sure: what are your InDesign and macOS versions?

Some users did report a similar issue on Mac with InDesign 21.2. Reverting to 21.1 solved the issue for the time being, according to user reports (CC app > InDesign > Other Versions menu).

    Hi @sminguijon,

Sorry to hear that you’re running into this again. Could you please confirm the exact InDesign version you’re using along with your OS details?

If you’re on macOS and using InDesign 21.2, we are seeing similar reports where the Undo functionality and History behavior are affected, and a bug has already been logged for it. You can refer to the discussion here as well:
    https://community.adobe.com/questions-671/indesign-21-2-undo-greyed-out-and-history-panel-blank-on-macos-tahoe-and-ventura-1551926?postid=7514324#post7514324

If you’re on Windows, please try clearing the InDesign preferences manually by following the video in this guide and then test the behavior again:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/setting-preferences.html

If the issue still persists, please share your InDesign version, OS version, whether this happens in all documents or specific ones, and if possible a short screen recording showing the Undo history disappearing.

    Looking forward to your update.

Thanks, Abhishek. I’m working on Windows 10. After cleaning the preferences, it seems to work well. I also work on MacOs but I haven’t found any issues with it.
