Indesign update now not opening older Indesign files

When trying to open older version Indesign files I am now getting the following message:

Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plugin that supports the file format may be missing. or the file may be open in another application.

Can anyone shed some light on why this is now an issue. All that has changed is we've just updated Indesign to version 15.1.4. Yesterday prior to the update, all older files were opening fine?

Hi Ashutosh, on further investigation it appears to not just be Indesign files with this issue. I'm having trouble with all manner of files and it appears it may be a Microsoft OneDrive issue where multiple versions of certain files have been created. Thanks for your help and suggestions, I'm now waiting to hear from Microsoft.

I face the same issue, I'm fed up with Adobe InDesign, It's quite not flexible, can't open each file of different version. Why should I use it more?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this. In addition to the helpful suggestions shared earlier, I would recommend to copy the file or package locally if it is saved on a network drive. Let us know if it helps.

Regards,

Ashutosh

Hi Jerradh, I am having major issues with files that have been saved to One Drive. I have attempted to open via One Drive folders and downloaded them to my desktop and I am still getting the pop-up. I have also noticed some files within the packaged folders have been duplicated with the name of my device after them. Did you discover how to fix this issue?

Must be a plugin that was installed on a previous version of InDesign and that info is saved with the file.

Now the new version of InDesign does not have that same plugin.

Use File>Export and choose IDML

Open the IDML file and resave it as an InDesign file with a new name.

That message does normally not appear with older version, but with INDD documents created with a later version. Maybe you had installed a beta version and now you are trying to open with an older version. Go to the latest version available, maybe you have to install the beta, opten that and save as IDML file. Open that in the version you want to work and save as new INDD file.
