InDesign v. 18 Ships with Scripting Powered by UXP

UXP powered scripting is included in InDesign v. 18.0, and InDesign Server v. 18.0, which are currently available from the Creative Cloud Desktop app (version 5.9). Read more about it on the Adobe Tech Blog. 

This "UXP Scripting" topic is intended for discussion of the new, modern JavaScript APIs availabel in InDesign. ExtendScript is still available in InDesign, please continue to discuss it in the "Scripting" topic. UXP powered plugins will be available in InDesign in 2023 (date TBD).
