Indesign version 22

I am having a lot of problems with the new editions of indesign and now have a file I created in pre release version 22 that  I can no longer open or convert.  I run a mac mini 2024 and use Adobe Creative Cloud as a professional typesetter. Somehow I ended up with both 21.6 and 22 pre release on my desktop. The 21.6 prerelease is really buggy and I cannot uninstall it, it automatically relaunches whenever I quit and now I cannot seem to reinstall 22 to get my document open (An entire book) so I can save an idml. I wanted to go back as the generative ai stuff is terrifying when typesetting long book documents... no I do not want my book rewriting thank you. How can I get my version 22 book open or re install version 22 which I am told it now can't be installed because it's clashing with 21.6 which won't quit? Help, I actually now can’t find version 22??

Thank you it seems it was my Creative Cloud app that needed reinstalling to work, I’ve now successfully uninstall the previous versions and am reinstalling 22 so I can open my document. As someone whose business depends on accuracy of the text supplied that I work with I do find the ai prompts regarding writing infuriating, the very last thing I want is anything changing so to have all the suggestions is awful, I couldn’t easily figure how to turn them off which is why I was trying to go backwards.

Yes I think I will now. Pre-release versions have been really helpful previously with things like epub export, and if I’m sharing a file I’d usually send an IDML file as well in a package so it’s not generally an issue. I was just really shocked by how difficult the generative ai. writing tools in 22 were, actively making job difficult, slowing everything down - I think I’ve got them turned off now. If try and open the ai assistant in a long document of text it just went into a spinning wheel. I will be avoiding it from now on. Thanks for your help though

You have put yourself in a bind it seems. If 21.6 is the problem and it is not quitting/uninstalling then kill the process via activity monitor and then uninstall using creative cloud desktop app https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/apps/download-install-apps/creative-cloud-apps/download-creative-cloud-desktop-app-from-web.html

After that try to use/install 22 again

You may wanna stop auto updates of apps in Creative Cloud Desktop app. The following article may help https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/apps/manage-apps/creative-cloud-apps/update-creative-cloud-apps-automatically.html

Also, if you are working on production projects be absolutely sure that you are using a public release else if you share the INDD file to others they would not be able to open it. In addition, prerelease versions may have bugs.
