Versies: Indesign 21.6,

I just tried the monitor steps and the GPU stays available. But from the moment I duplicate the laptop monitor, the GpU is disabled.
The resolution of the external screen is max. 3840 x 2160. the laptopscreen is: 1920 x 1080.
I sometimes have to use Indesign on the laptop wthout an extra high resolution screen, so it woeld be helpful to have the use of the GPU in Indesign without the extra monitor, if possible. Otherwise I will try to use the extra monitor as much as possible. It is already nice to know an extra monitir solves the problem.

Hi @Thorgil,

Thank you for the update! Glad to hear that connecting the high-resolution external monitor allows InDesign to detect your NVIDIA GPU.

This suggests that the issue may be related to the active display resolution or multi-monitor configuration. According to Adobe's GPU Performance requirements, GPU acceleration on Windows requires a monitor resolution greater than 2K.

Could you please try the following?

  1. Set the external monitor as your primary display: Go to Windows Settings > System > Display, select your high-resolution external monitor, and enable Make this my main display. Keep both screens active, restart InDesign, and check whether GPU Performance becomes available.

  2. Test using only the external monitor: With the laptop lid still open, press Windows + P and select Second screen only. Restart InDesign and check whether the GPU is detected. This may allow you to use GPU acceleration without closing the laptop lid.

If GPU Performance works only when the laptop display is disabled, it would suggest that the lower-resolution laptop screen is affecting InDesign's GPU eligibility check.

Could you also confirm the screen resolutions of both your laptop and external monitor, and whether you'd like to use InDesign with both displays active?

Please let us know the results so we can investigate further if needed.
Abhishek

Do you have a high resolution monitor?

I have. I just tried to attach the monitor, and that helped. But only if I close my laptop, so I have the larger resolution on the monitor

You need a monitor with at least 2K resolution so that explains it.
