Question

InDesign window moves behind Photoshop

The same problem that began to occur with Illustrator and Photoshop several years back is now occuring in InDesign (main palette window moves behind other active windows when you attempt to move the window).  Not interested in work arounds and desktop viewing segmentations etc.  I want to work the old standard way. Adobe and Apple please resolve this issue!!!

Hello @FH Addict

Would you mind trying to manually reset InDesign’s preferences by following the suggestions shared here (https://community.adobe.com/questions-671/reset-indesign-preferences-and-other-troubleshooting-867226#:~:text=Reset%20(aka%20trashing)%20preferences%20(2)) and let us know if they help?

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also save a backup of the folders if you want. The location is mentioned above.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

The same for me and many others. This drives me crazy, a waste of time. How Adobe can accept this bug after many years?
The same bug appears with the App Screenflow.
please take a look at illustrator, the same occurs to Indesign and Photoshop: https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.uservoice.com/assets/240/087/061/original/bug.mov?X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Credential=AKIAXKFPEGD3JPOGUECX%2F20260324%2Fus-east-1%2Fs3%2Faws4_request&X-Amz-Date=20260324T142408Z&X-Amz-Expires=1800&X-Amz-SignedHeaders=host&X-Amz-Signature=760f0bb6c2f35fcc12c43fcae4749976c24f5deef1be62a11267467df991a882

Hello @FH Addict

I’m sorry to hear you’re having similar trouble with InDesign. Could you try updating your OS and Photoshop/InDesign to the latest versions, then check whether the problem persists?

Also, try running the apps under a different administrator account (macOS) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for your quick answer.
I have the last MacOS26.3.1 (a)
And the last updates of Adobe, for example Indesign 21.2
This problem lasts for years now.
And sorry, no, I won’t play with another administrator account. Too risky as my Mac is embedded in the Microsoft portal in the company I work in.
Thanks

Hello @arnold_9836,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please share more details, such as the version of the OS/InDesign installed, as well as a brief screen recording of your workflow, so we can better assist you? Also, try running InDesign after rebooting your computer in Safe Mode (macOS) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I restarted in Safe Mod
>OS 14. 5
>Macbook 2018
>See attached thumbnail of system
>All current 2026 Adobe programs
>Mirror displaying onto Samsung monitor

1. I opened Adobe INDD, AI, PSD, Chrome browser, Outlook

When I opened just INDD, Chrome, Outlook—INDD always was active on top of everything. When I moved the frame it always remained on top where it should normally be.

2. The minute I opened up AI and PSD is when problems started. 80% of movements to the INDD frame window caused it to go behind PSD. The same is true of AI—80% of time went behind PSD. However PSD always stays on top when I click on it and move the window in my screen. It is not consistent. Sometimes when i double click on the program it stays on top for longer period of time, but only slight.

3. The same exact thing is happening to my IMAC 27 that is from 2021. All current 2026 Adobe programs with OS 14.6
