InDesign won't save black color values

Hello! I installed the print shop's GRACoL2006_Coated1v2.icc profile and since then my black pages and black text have different CMYK values that I cannot change back to the original values I set up because InDesign won't save them. I have tried multiple times to change them back, but only some pages get saved. After I reopen the file it seems like random pages are saved and the others are not. I saved them every time. Why is this happening and what can I do? Thank you!

Your capture shows the Policy is set to Preserve so you don't have to make any changes.

To change the black builds, choose Add Unnamed from the Swatches panel fly out menu and from there you will be able to edit or replace the black colors

Thank you so much, Rob! All of a sudden InDesign started saving again, but randomly. However, I have replaced the black colors too. I appreciate your help.

Hi @Mel_D , What you are describing would happen if the Color Settings CMYK Color Management Policy was set to Convert to Profile when the document was created. In most cases you should not use Convert as your CMYK Policy. If you value built CMYK output values over color appearance use either Preserve Profile or Preserve Numbers (Ignore Linked Profiles) with the Coated GRACoL profile set as the Working CMYK space when you create new documents.

Thank you so much, Rob! The first mistake I made was converting to this Gracol profile after I had finished the document. My file was actually set up properly because I made this booklet a few times before. However, I found the print shop's instructions and wanted to follow them...and voila!:) What do you suggest I do now? My black color values are still not getting saved. The text is not too big of an issue, but I am worried about the black pages that were set to rich black. Thanks again!

Right, you should have assigned the GRACoL profile via Edit> Assign Profiles... rather than using Convert Profiles... If your InDesign native files are setup as Swatches you could still edit the black swatches to your preferred rich black build(s).
