Index Disappeared

I started working on an index yesterday and when I opened the document today, all the entries have disappeared. Doesn't Indesign save all the changes automatically?

@dalia_6212

What platform, OS and InDesign versions?

What cloud service?

Can you check exact date and time of the last save of your file?

Thank you so much. The issue was the lack of an internet connection.

Hi @dalia_6212,

As Eugene suggested, it’s always a good idea to create a backup of important files, especially when working with indexes or other detailed content. Since you mentioned saving the file to the cloud, could you please try the suggestions in this article and check if there's an earlier version of the file saved that still contains the index entries:

Let me know how it goes.

No - you have to choose File Save or File Save As - on closing the document you should have been notified via a dialog box that the document needs to be saved and if you want to save it or not.

Did you save it to another location on your hard drive? Did you move the file after saving? Perhaps search your document.

Also highly recommend copying your folder/files that you work on to a server/one drive/google drive to back them up - always back up your files.

Not really sure why the document has not got the entries other than it wasn't saved or saved to another location.

I did save the file to the cloud. I'll also copy it to Drive.

I have no idea why the index entries just disappeared like that.

Thank you.
