Hi @Moiz5FB2,

I hope Robert’s suggestion helped recover your file. Were you able to resolve the issue, or is InDesign still crashing when opening the IDML? If the problem persists, could you share which version of InDesign you're currently using and the details of your operating system?

Also, have you submitted a crash report via the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog box and included your email? If not, please do so and share the email with me via DM on the community so I can have the product team investigate the logs. Reference: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html

Additionally, try going through this article and see if any of the steps help: https://adobe.ly/4ijRDv0. Let me know how it goes!

I'm using InDesign on MB M3 pro, latest OS. InDesign 2025 (v 20.2).

I have submitted several crash reports, both to Apple and Adobe via the dialog that appears after a crash.

I investigated the cause and it turned out that the crash was caused when I typed some particular combinations of letters in Arabic, like: "محى، احجى" using a custom font that I had developed by myself.
The file opened in an earlier version on InDesign 2024 (v 19.5.3) using same text and same font.
It also worked on Windows 11, InDesign 2025 (v 20.2), same text and font.

Please let me know if there a solution to this situation.

Thanks and regards.

If this won't work - then you'll have to Google for a commercial recovery service.

And start doing daily backups...

Just in case - do you use some cloud service or Time Machine on a Mac?

Thanks you very much for the script.

I managed to make an IDML from the damaged file.

Now the IDML is opening and then InDesign crashes again.

As for your uestion regarding cloud service, I am working on a folder in OneDrive, and I tried to recover from an earlier version, and it didn't work.
