Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. It is not possible to insert formatting in the index tags. Please click on InDesign UserVoice link https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/39862069-index-tag-with-formatting to upvote this feature suggestion.

Hi Luciano,

I have this situation as well, and have custom scripting to take care of it, which is a bit tedious, but works as a system that multiple people can use. Each style is surrounded by established symbols, for example:

[italic] = italics

|bold| = bold

{bold italic} = bold italic

$small caps$ = SMALL CAPS

@small caps bold@ = SMALL CAPS BOLD

So, for example, you could put an index entry like "Michael Jordan, see Jordan, Michael" as "Michael Jordan, [see] |Jordan, Michael|"

Again, a bit tedious, but it works as a system as there is no native way to do this in InDesign.

Hope this helps.
