Inserting Clear Graphics from Another InDesign File Without Losing Quality

Hi there,
 
I am trying to insert pages from an A4 landscape spread as a thumbnail graphic (well, actually about 30% of the original size) into another InDesign A4 portrait spread. Much like we can with Powerpoint when you want the notes pages. I have tried exporting the originals as jpg and png, with various quality and resolution settings, then using the "Place" tool to insert the object, then either scale the object or fit to frame. They all result in blurry or pixelated 'thumbnail' image, unsuitable for printing. Any advice appreciated.

You can place the InDesign file itself - no need to export to any other format.

Use

File>Place and then select Show options and you can select the page you want to place

I think you might also be looking at the resolution display in InDesign and not accounting for how it might be looking in print correctly
