Hi everyone,
I’m creating an interactive PDF in Adobe InDesign and I’m having an issue with internal links.

When I click a link that jumps to another page:

on desktop (Adobe Acrobat Reader) everything works correctly ✔️
on mobile, the page opens halfway / not from the top of the page ❌

I already tried:

setting zoom to “Fit Width”
setting zoom to “Fit Page”
recreating all links from scratch
exporting as Interactive PDF with hyperlinks enabled

But the issue still happens on mobile devices.

Is this a limitation of mobile PDF viewers, or is there a setting in InDesign that forces the page to always open from the top?

Here is a suggestion that may or may not work:

Create a new hyperlink destination as a text anchor at the top of each page. Then set the link’s action to “Go to Destination” with the appropriate anchor destination.

As Bob mentions: there are too many browsers and their PDF viewers to know for sure if this method will work.

One thing to keep in mind with PDF, it is not mobile responsive. The format may scale down on mobile view, but will not adjust elements for an optimized view.

You are very likely to be fighting a losing battle. Beyond Acrobat on a desktop, interactive PDF is a crapshoot at best. Too many browsers, PDF readers and devices to take into account.

Do you have any advice if I want to create an interactive catalog that can also be used offline? I’m trying Figma, but I still don’t fully understand the export part. Thanks in advance

An interactive catalog needs to be a website with shopping cart mechanisms. PDF won’t do.

Try to export to the regular (Print) PDF. It does preserve interactivity. Will it make a difference? Just a shot in the dark, I don’t know if it can make a difference.
