Question

interactivity working in SWF preview, but not in export

I created a simple pdf with buttons to reveal and then hide information. When I use the SWF preview everything works as it should. But when I export it as an interactive pdf, the interactivity doesn't work in Acrobat. I've published to web as well, and there the reveal works, but then the hide button doesn't work. The only way to hide the information again is to refresh the page. I've tried this in Chrome and Firefox (latest versions of both).

I'm using inDesign CC 13.0.1 and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.

Thanks!

Are the buttons using the "Show/Hide" action or "Go to State" action? The end result for each action can be the same. However, each action is specific for an intended export: "Show/Hide" is for PDF, and "Go to State" for swf and html5.

Got to state is specific to multi state objects which work in EPUB and Publish Online. They were originally developed for SWF and still work there, but SWF itself is dead format and shouldn’t be used at all.

Right, and could explain how the OP can see the result in SWF Preview, and not in a Acrobat/Reader viewing a PDF.

SWF is NOT PDF! That is horrible way to test interactivity in a PDF.

That out of the way, interactive PDF is a crapshoot for anything other than Acrobat or Acrobat Reader on a desktop. Browsers and mobile devices? Completely hit or miss.

SWF Preview is how it was recommended to check interactivity in a lynda.com course. How do you suggest I test interactivity instead?

I used Acrobat on a desktop and it didn't work. Do you have any recommendations on what I might have done wrong?

Must be a very old course. I would never recommend that.

How exactly are you trying to get this to work? Show/hide buttons and forms?

What version of InDesign? What version of Acrobat? And what publish to the web mean? Publish Online?
