Issue: Master Page Names Changing After IDML Export

When exporting an INDD file that contains custom master pages to IDML format, the names of the some master pages are automatically changed or replaced during the conversion process. This causes inconsistencies when reopening the IDML file, especially when working across teams or different versions of InDesign.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a known workaround or fix to preserve the original master page names during IDML export?

In the attached files it changed from B-Col one-Rest-Odd to C-Col one-Rest-Odd, basically its prefix got changed.

I flicked through both and the seem identical.

So many parent pages - Quite a lot.

You could save a file as an InDesign Template - that might work better and retain things a bit neater.

Actually i need idml file only, need to work on it further.

And check "B-Col one-Rest-Odd" in indd file got changed to "C-Col one-Rest-Odd" in idml file.

I tried with various documents with more parent spreads sometimes it changes half of its parent names.

I extracted the IDML by renaming it to a .zip and extracted the content

The prefixes show correctly in the IDML - which probably means the prefix names are being incremented because InDesign is identifying it as a duplicate Prefix

I wouldn't have thought you can have the same Prefix for different Parents - maybe you'll have more luck if you were to use a different prefix like B1 B2

I test it and it seems to work - attached
