Issue with Composite Fonts in InDesign 2025 Adding Extra Spaces in Mixed Arabic and English Text

I am encountering an issue with composite fonts in InDesign 2025 where extra white spaces are being added before and after English letters and numbers embedded in an Arabic paragraph. This issue is not present in InDesign 2023, which is also installed on the same PC. The problem only occurs in InDesign 2025 and affects the layout and alignment of Arabic and English mixed text.

Hi @Merry_Dream5123,

Could you share which OS you’re using and whether the issue occurs with all composite fonts or just specific ones? Also, does adjusting the justification or character spacing settings make any difference? If possible, a small screen recording of the issue would help me check this with the team. Lastly, confirm the exact version of InDesign 2025. Is it the latest 20.2 or any other version? Looking forward to your update!

Hi Abhishek Rao,

Many thanks for the update, please find below the answers to your questions:

1. Could you share which OS you’re using?

  • It is: Edition: Windows 10 Enterprise; Version: 22H2; Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19061.1000.0.

2. Whether the issue occurs with all composite fonts or just specific ones?

  • It occurs with all composite fonts; imported from previous InDesign versions or newly created in InDesign 2025. See attached a screenshot of the composite font properties.

3. Does adjusting the justification or character spacing settings make any difference?

  • No, it doesn't make difference. The issue persists.

4. If possible, a small screen recording of the issue would help me check this with the team.

  • Please find attached a screen recording.

5. Lastly, confirm the exact version of InDesign 2025. Is it the latest 20.2 or any other version?

  • It is InDesign 20.2 x64. I also encountered the same issue in version 20.1.

Moreover, the InDesign 18.5.3 is already installed on the same PC and it works well without any issue. I don't want to uninstall it until InDesign 2025 is working properly, so I can continue my work. Thanks!

Hi @Merry_Dream5123,

Thanks for sharing all the details and the screen recording. I noticed the screenshot of the composite font arrangement you shared, and I’d like to try reproducing the issue on my end, so I can escalate it to the team for a closer look.

Could you please package and share a sample InDesign file where the issue is clearly visible? Just make sure to include all fonts while packaging. You can follow the steps outlined in this article:

If the file contains any confidential content, feel free to DM it to me directly on the community (just click on my name and hit “Message”).

Looking forward to hearing from you!
