Issue with Constrain Proportions in InDesign 2025 (20.0)

Translate

Constrain proportions for width and height in InDesign 2025 (20.0) is broken. In previous versions of InDesign the constrain-status would stay the way you selected always, now you have to link it every time you scale something, it's quite annoying and adds an extra step to workflow.

Hi there, InDesign 26.1 on a Mac Studio running Sonoma 14.6.1 Wednesday, 7 October 2026, and this idiotic “bug” has just appeared as I’m working on a deadline. I have made no changes to anything on this computer since the last time I used this program, and I have tried all the suggestions under this question. I don’t understand what is meant by you have to “link it” every time you scale something. How do you link the Constrain function to your imported photo? All I run in the background is Malwarebytes, is that the problem?

Do I really have to use photoshop to resize each individual photo I’m using?

The bug is only present in the Properties panel. Use the Control panel until it’s fixed.

Thank you, on my machine it works in control panel but only as a percentage and not as a measurement. That’s good enough for now.

Hi Abishek. Here is the problem that has existed for several years. There is no chain link to constrain proportions of width/height in the Transform fly-out menu. See my screenshot to illustrate.

I could be wrong, but I think this bug doesn’t get sufficient attention as the Transform panel isn’t widely used in InDesign. All its options are already in the Control panel where they function as expected. (Which doesn’t mean this shouldn’t be fixed, of course.)

Adobe, are you kidding me?

After two years, I finally dared to upgrade from version 19 to a newer version, and it’s full of bugs? Am I really going to have to downgrade to version 19 again?

I want stable software! Stop adding annoying pop-ups that keep appearing over and over again, and FIX THE BUGS!

What exactly am I paying all this money for every year? So I can stick to one version because upgrading to a newer one isn’t actually possible? Or so I can enjoy even more pop-ups?

Yes, the Properties panel bug is still there. Use the classic Control panel instead. In my view, it’s a better way to organize your workspace anyway (although I do understand it’s a matter of habit, too).

Holding shift key doesn’t work

There are no known issues with the Shift key action. Can you please elaborate on this?

I think this issue has returned in the new 2026 version. I’m on the latest version and this bug is still happening - can this PLEASE be fixed again in an upcoming update?? The extra workflow step is so annoying

I can’t reproduce it here in InDesign 21.2 on macOS Tahoe.

Try to clear caches as described here - sometimes it fixes unusual UI issues:

Hi - no I've not had any issues since updating, except that Indesign is laggy as hell now.

I hate asking stupid questions - so here goes - have you definitley uninstalled previous versions?

I haven't done any yet. I'm not sure what to do first. Do I do the uninstall pervious version first or do I unintall and reinstall creative cloud? I'd like to keep some of the previous version for my job.
