Issue with Constrain Proportions in InDesign 2025 (20.0)

Constrain proportions for width and height in InDesign 2025 (20.0) is broken. In previous versions of InDesign the constrain-status would stay the way you selected always, now you have to link it every time you scale something, it's quite annoying and adds an extra step to workflow.

Hi @hopedivisionza  & @viv_jeroen,

Thanks again for sharing all the details and helping us reproduce this. I wanted to let you know that we’ve logged a bug for this issue with the product team, and they’re currently working on investigating and fixing it.

I understand how disruptive this can be to your workflow, especially having to re-enable the option repeatedly, and really appreciate your patience here. I’ll keep you posted as soon as I have any updates to share.

Thanks again for your time and for flagging this!

Abhishek

Hi Abishek. Here is the problem that has existed for several years. There is no chain link to constrain proportions of width/height in the Transform fly-out menu. See my screenshot to illustrate.

Adobe, are you kidding me?

After two years, I finally dared to upgrade from version 19 to a newer version, and it’s full of bugs? Am I really going to have to downgrade to version 19 again?

I want stable software! Stop adding annoying pop-ups that keep appearing over and over again, and FIX THE BUGS!

What exactly am I paying all this money for every year? So I can stick to one version because upgrading to a newer one isn’t actually possible? Or so I can enjoy even more pop-ups?

FIX THE BUGS ALREADY!!!

This is happening again. I’m all up to date. It’s infuriating to be wasting time trying to correctly resize images. Holding shift key doesn’t work, and the constrain link icon on the properties panel doesn’t work.

Yes, the Properties panel bug is still there. Use the classic Control panel instead. In my view, it’s a better way to organize your workspace anyway (although I do understand it’s a matter of habit, too).

Holding shift key doesn’t work

There are no known issues with the Shift key action. Can you please elaborate on this?

I just used Gemini to help me figure it out. It was programs running in the background! I think it was the anti virus.

Anyone else still having this issue. March 2026 on both of my devices.

I think this issue has returned in the new 2026 version. I’m on the latest version and this bug is still happening - can this PLEASE be fixed again in an upcoming update?? The extra workflow step is so annoying

I can’t reproduce it here in InDesign 21.2 on macOS Tahoe.

Try to clear caches as described here - sometimes it fixes unusual UI issues:

Same for me. After the 21.2 update the Constrain Proportions option keeps turning off. Using Windows here

Is any one else still experincing this problem? It scales up fine but not down. I have updated to 20.1.

Hi - no I've not had any issues since updating, except that Indesign is laggy as hell now.

I hate asking stupid questions - so here goes - have you definitley uninstalled previous versions?

I haven't done any yet. I'm not sure what to do first. Do I do the uninstall pervious version first or do I unintall and reinstall creative cloud? I'd like to keep some of the previous version for my job.

Did you upgrade to 20.1? Mine is working correctly.

Hi @aaikele,

Thank you for following up! The update to InDesign 20.1, which includes the fix for the Constrain Proportions issue, is expected to be available in mid-January 2025. Please keep an eye on your Creative Cloud app for the update.

Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions!

Best,

We will have waited 3 months to get this simple fix.

This is what I call a real good-for-value-for-money from Adobe. Not.

Exactly. Adobe has broken a feature that worked perfectly logically for years. Maybe if I delete v.2025 and go back to an earlier version?

Yes, 2024 is still quite stable.

Correct. Yup, sadly this has been neglected. This is highly unprofessional. Having to convert all 2025 ID files back to 2024 files is a real chore.

Hi @G_Man ,

see my workaround using the percentage input fields with values plus measurement unit.
