Issue with editing text in a text frame - needs 2 clicks

I updated to 20.0.1 a couple of days ago and me and my colleague (both on Sonoma 14.6.1.)  have this issue:

When trying to edit text or numbers in text frames by choosing the letter or number, and trying to click any number or letter on the keyboard (to replace it), nothing happens. You have to click twice for the text/number to change. This happens randomly, not all the time. If you paste the text, then it doesn't happen. It makes working very difficult.

Hey @titat10079918,

Thanks for all the details-it really helps! Let’s try a couple of things to tackle this:

1. Update to v20.1 if you haven’t already and see if it helps with the issue.

2. Reset your InDesign preferences:

 - On Mac, press Cmd + Ctrl + Shift + Option while launching InDesign.

 - It’ll reset to default settings, so let me know if this changes anything.

Also, try working in a brand-new file and let me know if the issue still shows up.

Let me know how it goes!

Best,
Abhishek

Hi @titat10079918,

Thanks for reaching out! Let me confirm: When you select text or numbers in a text frame and type, does the selected text not replace immediately, requiring multiple keystrokes?

 - Did this issue start immediately after updating to 20.0.1, or did it work fine for some time after the update?

 - Were any new plugins or software installed on your machine after which this issue began?

 - Is this behavior specific to one file, or does it happen across all files, including newly created documents?

Could you also test if the issue persists when working in Safe Mode on macOS? Reference:  https://adobe.ly/4hgqdoZ

Additionally, are you using any desktop management apps like Magnet, Rectangle, or BetterSnapTool?

If possible, please share a screen recording to help us understand better.

Looking forward to your response!

Best,
Abhishek

Hi,  thanks for your reply.

-Issue started right after update.  My colleague changed to 20.0.0.95 but the same problem persists in it as well.
-No new plugins or software installed. I only have Pantone Connect installed into my InDesign but I have not used it while the error has occured.
-The issue happens on all files and also on those files that are created on the new version. It also happens whether the file is saved locally on the computer or on a server or as an Creative cloud document.
-The issue occurs also on safe mode.
-Neither me or my colleague have been using any desktop management apps like you mentioned.

I do not have a screen recording at the moment, and I don't think it helps because you can't see what I am doing on the keyboard. Sometimes it requires 2 or even 3 clicks on the keyboard before the number/letter changes. Sometimes it works normally. But it is a reoccuring issue, it happens very often, at least 60% of the time. The keyboards are fine, because they work perfectly with the older versions of InDesign. And it happens only when highlighting a letter or a number in a text frame, and then using a keyboard. Pasting text to replace the highlighted text works normally.

Hope this helps.
