issue with graphic frames

I am teaching students Indesign and was teaching basic graphic frames.

Usually an image within a graphic frame has a circle in the center that allows you to select the image inside in the frame. One student did not have this circle in the centre of her image, and instead when she tried to resize the frame the image within it would also resize?

Please advise!

Have the student go through the View menu to Extras>Show Content Grabber. You can also select the image directly using the direct selection tool (white arrow). In that case you must make sure to click on the image not the outer frame.
