Issues with InDesign drop-down menus after installation

I have installed the latest version of InDesign and once the application launches, the cursor has this constant load wheel that keeps flickering and I'm unable to access any menu drop-down or any drop-down for that matter. On clicking the drop-down expands for a second and closes. I can't seem to fix this. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, setting to default preferneces-nothing works.
