Question

It is possible to divide text box to threated text boxes by paragraph styles?

Hi I would like to ask, if it is possible to divide one text box to more text boxes? The text needs to be one story. The first text box cannot be deleted and placed new because is having an ID.

I would like to divide the last 5 boxes automatically with script or somewhat.

Thanks in advance. 🙂

Maybe take a look at Ajar Productions’s “Split Text Extension” for InDesign: https://ajarproductions.com/blog/2014/09/25/split-text-extension-for-indesign/

Hi, I know about this scrip from Ajar. It works well, but it is without option to choose before which paragraph style it should cut the text box, and also it creates separate text boxes without threading them.

It divided my text box to separate boxes based on paragraph, without thread...

Hi @Richard Janešík , Seems like you should be able to do it with Paragraph formatting’s  Span/Split Columns. Here the text is set as one column in a single text frame with Split Column applied:

@rob day's method is one way to do it.

You also can create specific styles that will automatically push the paragraph of text to the next frame or the next column. The settings are under Keep Options / Start Paragraph.

Either method can give you what you want. Depends on your design and which is easiest to do for your project.

In the preinstalled scripts is such a script.

But why you want to do so?

Hi, I cannot find something like that in preinstalled scripts. Unfortenatelly we use CS6 as the company choice.

The result is because it is kinda repetitive task if the magazine spread will looks like this:

Split a frame into 2 or more columns  (Span/Split columns mentioned by Rob Day) isn't available in CS6. That feature was added in later versions.

But the Keep Options / Start Paragraph in next threaded frame is in CS6.
